We all like to think that we live adequately healthy lifestyles. A good number of us even work to improve our efforts toward living healthier. This includes eating right, exercising weekly, and sleeping regularly every night. But this is easier said than done, especially given our hectic lives as adults – we put in so much work every day that we sometimes don’t properly care for ourselves. Read on to learn why living a healthy lifestyle, in all aspects, is important for us.

Eating Well

Your outward appearance starts from the inside – what you eat and drink. Nutritionists recommend that women eat between 1500-2400 calories per day, while men eat between 2000-3000 calories. Moreover, it’s important to eat a varied diet. Aim for a healthy mix of fruits and veggies, whole grains, low-fat dairy, lean meats, and monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats – the good fats like avocado, vegetable oils, nuts, and peanut butter. Furthermore, monitor your protein intake. Eating enough protein will trick your body into thinking your stomach is full, thus curbing your appetite.



Most healthcare professionals recommend at least 150 minutes of exercise per week. A healthy mix of cardio and weight training helps you burn fat and build muscle. Additionally, practicing yoga or meditation helps to relax and unwind after a stressful day and improves cognitive function and mood.

Sleeping Regularly

It is recommended that adults get between 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Make a habit of going to bed at the same time every night and waking up at the same time, which will reset your internal clock. Living a healthy lifestyle will improve your mood and self-esteem. A significant portion of mental health relies on physical health and taking care of yourself.
