North Shore Elder Services is honored to present Dr. William (Larry) Minnix as he joins us for his inspiring talk titled “The Secrets of Life”. Dr. Minnix will tell stories that will reveal the secrets you need to know about life as we all grow older and how NSES makes those secrets come to life!
Larry and his wife of 46 years, Kathleen, live in Atlanta. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Emory University and is an ordained Unite Methodist clergy. He began his career in aging services in 1973 with Wesley Woods, a comprehensive senior service associated with the United Methodist Church and Emory Healthcare. He was at Wesley for 28 years and succeeded its founding CEO on his retirement. After 10 years in that position, Larry joined what is now LeadingAge as its CEO in 2001. Composed of over 5700 non-profit service members, business firms, and professionals, LeadingAge advocates for policy changes that makes America a better place to grow old. He led initiatives in nursing home quality improvements, better ways to help families pay for long term services, technology, professional development, and preservation of not-for-profit values.
Larry has been recognized among “The Non-Profit Times” top 50 most influential non-profit leaders in the nation on three occasions and PBS-Next Avenue 50 most influential people in aging last year. He has received many awards from organizations like the National council on Aging. LeadingAge not only bestowed on him their Award of Honor last year as he retired, but named the LeadingAge Leadership Academy in his name as it was founded on his watch. The Academy has graduated over 300 emerging leaders in the aging services field.
